Matthew R. Dean

Matthew R. Dean, 54, of Cumberland passed away unexpectedly at home on February 6, 2025. Born in Providence, he was the son of Robert Dean, the late Gloria E. (Larivee) Cavanaugh and step-son of the late Peter Cavanaugh.

Matt was a software engineer for Mastercam.

He enjoyed time with family and friends, camping, spending time in New Hampshire and Maine and traveling the East coast and to Bermuda. He was an avid BMX rider and snowboarder in his younger days and progressed to novice dirt bike riding and track day street bike racing in his adult years.

He was the cherished father of Douglas A. Dean; brother of Marc Dean (Gale Mason), Scott Dean (Gail) and step brother to Dawn M. Cavanaugh. Uncle to Gregory, Marisa, Tyler and Nate Dean. He was the beloved companion of Michelle F. Knights and her daughter Shelby King (Randy). He was, also, a grandpa to their children, Michael, Ariana and Evelyn.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the PONTARELLI-MARINO FUNERAL HOME, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence followed by a service in the funeral home at 7:00 PM. Burial will be private.
