
Fort Myers, FloridaMaguire, Matthew J., Jr., 67, of Siesta Drive, and formerly of Albert Avenue, Cranston, died Wednesday, September 13th, at the Lee Memorial Hospital, Health Park, Fort Myers, Florida. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Grogan) Maguire. They had been married nearly 45 years. Born in Providence, a son of the late Matthew J. Maguire, Sr. and Genevieve (Glyne) Maguire, he had lived in Cranston for many years before moving to Fort Myers fifteen years ago. Matt was a firefighter for the Providence Fire Department for twenty two years, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant in 1984. During his career, he served on Ladder 10, Ladder 5, Ladder 1, and Engine 11.He was a member of the Providence Firefighters Union, Local 799, the Retired Providence Police and Firefighters Association, the Providence Permanent Firemen's Relief Association, the Marine Corps League, Dads of Foreign Service Veterans, Post 15097, the PFC Paul E. Ison Detachment SWFL, and the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, Council 10318, in Fort Myers. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, and participated in the Toys for Tots program. He was an avid and enthusiastic fan of the World Champion Boston Red Sox and Superbowl Champion New England Patriots. He attended LaSalle Academy and Providence College. Beside his wife Barbara, he leaves five sons; James M.(Marsha) Maguire of Cape Coral, Florida, Michael J. (Mary Ellen) Maguire of Vero Beach, Florida, William J. (Audrey) Maguire of Norwood, Massachusetts, Edward J. (Amy) Maguire of Indianapolis, Indiana, Patrick S.(Lynn) Maguire of Coventry , a daughter; Kimberly A. (Patrick) Isherwood of Cape Coral, Florida, a sister; Joan Capwell of Pawtucket, and twelve grandchildren, James Jr., Kyle, Lauren, Katie, Kevin, Megan, Patrick II, Matthew, Nora, Brigid, Siobhan, and Jessica. The funeral will be held Tuesday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, Academy Avenue, Providence. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
