

CoventryMichael "Mike" Kdonian, 72, of Lear Drive, and formerly of Fowler Street, Providence, died suddenly Saturday at home. He was the beloved husband of Frances A. (Morrison) Kdonian. They had been married for over forty years. Born in Cranston, a son of the late Michael and Remira (Scussel) Kdonian, he lived in Providence most of his life before moving to Coventry three years ago. Mike was a controller for various automotive and manufacturing firms for many years, and a self-employed tax preparer, before retiring. He was also an associate of the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home for the past several years. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was a former coach, and past president of the Mount Pleasant Little League, organizer and coach of the Providence Youth Hockey Association, serving as its president for many years; a former umpire with the Rhode Island Umpires Association, Olneyville Little League and the North Providence Babe Ruth League; a former member and Secretary of the Rhode Island Ice Hockey Officials Association, and for over thirty five years, was an off ice official and supervisor of Off Ice Officials for the Providence College Friars Mens & Womans Ice Hockey Program, retiring following the 2000-2001 season. A 1954 graduate of Mount Pleasant High school, he maintained his ties to the school by volunteering his time with the boys Basketball, Baseball, and Soccer Programs, and was the assistant coach when Mount Pleasant won the Mens Basketball State Championship in the 2002-2003 season. He leaves a sister, Monica R. Vieira, a brother, Malcolm A. Kdonian, two brother in laws, Herbert "Red" Morrison and Joseph J. Morrison, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Thursday, at 9:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Funeral service at 11:00 am in Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 70 Jefferson Street, Providence followed by committal in Swan Point Cemetery Chapel. Visiting hours Wednesday, 4 - 7 pm.
