

Michaelangelo Accetta Jr. “Mike”, 90, passed away October 31, 2014. Son of the late Michaelangelo and Maria (Mendillo) Accetta, Sr.; husband of the late Margaret (Parente) Accetta; father of Michaelangelo Accetta III and his wife Karen, and Richard Accetta and his wife JoAnn; grandfather of Gregory, Stephanie, Michaelangelo IV, Matthew, and great-granddaughter Jordan. He was the brother of the late Mary Alviano, Joseph, Louis and Vincent Accetta.
Mike worked for the city of Providence Department of Public Works for 32 years and retired in 1984 as Superintendent of public works. On October 6, 1968, he proudly helped to establish the Public Employees’ Local Union 1033, L.I.U.N.A. He served as a Trustee and Delegate of Local Union 1033 to the Rhode Island Laborers’ Retiree Council.
A Federal Hill Legend. Extremely Proud of his Italian Heritage. Mike was and Avid sports fan and Truly a Die Hard YANKEE’S FAN. He was a friend to all and was always there to help anyone in need. Loved and respected by his family and all who knew him. He had an uncanny talent for telling stories from Back In The Day and had an answer for everything. He was truly a man of unwavering principals and said it the way it was. A man who was deeply and sincerely proud of his Son’s and Grandchildren and of all their accomplishments. He was particularly fond of his Blue Member’s Only Jacket.
Visitation Tuesday 4-7 p.m. with a funeral Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 639 Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Graveside burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
