Born in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Rabbi Moshe and Helen (Klein) Babin.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1971, Miriam went on to earn a bachelors degree from Barnard College in 1975 and a law degree from Boston University in 1978. She was an accomplished attorney, beginning her practice as an assistant district attorney in Bristol County, going on to establish her own firm, and then working in the probate court in Bristol county.
Miriam was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Providence for many years. A skilled seamstress, Miriam was the designated tailor for her family, making all of her nieces, nephews, great nephews and great niece their baby blankets and countless other beautiful handmade pieces of art.
She is survived by her two loving sisters, Nehama Babin of Bethesda, Maryland and Dena Levine and her husband Stuart of Barrington, RI; two nephews, Daniel Rosenthal and his wife, Elizabeth Shaw, and Nathaniel Levine and his wife, Sarah Bakst; three nieces, Abigail Levine and her husband, Kevin Dillener, Rebecca Levine and her husband, Daniel Heller, and Sarah Rosenthal and her husband, Erik Laby; four great-nephews, Samuel Rosenthal-Shaw, Ethan Heller, Ezekiel Heller, and Max Bakst-Levine; and one great niece, Emma Rosenthal-Shaw.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 23, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Temple Emanu-El, 99 Taft Ave, Providence, RI with burial in Temple Beth El, 4515 North Main Street, Fall River, MA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Jewish Theological Seminary Development Fund or the Massachusetts Bar Foundation.
Shiva will be held at the Levine residence in Barrington on Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
