

Nelson Perez, 84, of Nicole Drive, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at home with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of the late Zaida D. (Hinton) Perez who passed away on April 6, 2011.Born in Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Antonio and Esperanza (Perez) Perez.Mr. Perez served in the United States Army, in World War II and the Korean Conflict, receiving the Army of Occupation Medal. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of RI. Nelson also loved the Boston Red Sox, played the violin, and was an avid golfer. Nelson Graduated Bryant University with a Bachelors Degree and Northeastern University with a MBA.Nelson retired from Our Lady of Fatima / Saint Joseph Hospital as an administrator. He then began a second career with his wife as a proprietor of Zaida's Restaurant, in North Providence.He leaves his three children, Betty-Jean Perez and Richard Perez of Warwick, and Carolyn Pelletier of West Warwick; a brother, Elson Perez of Smithfield; five grand children and two great-great grandchildren. He was also the grandfather of the late Audrey-Lee Champagne.His funeral will be held on Monday, at 8:45 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Route 117-Exit 10 off I95) Warwick, with a funeral service at 10:00 am. Burial with military honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours, Sunday 4-7 pm.
