It is with great sadness that the family of Norma J. (Lind) Stone announces her passing. Norma died peacefully on Saturday June 20, 2026 at the age of 83. She was the wife of the late Allen C. Stone, to whom she was married for 52 years until his passing in 2014.
Born in Jamestown, New York, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Luella “Babe” (Otten) Lind.
A homemaker for many years, Norma would cook, bake bread, knit, and cut and sew many of her own clothes. She was then employed for many years as a switchboard operator at Amica Insurance, serving both the Providence and Lincoln home offices. She was known for her friendly demeanor, off-color humor, strong work ethic, and the kindness she extended to colleagues and customers alike.
Norma enjoyed golf, bingo, cribbage and bowling in leagues for many years. Following a minor heart attack in 1988, she would meet a new friend group at Cardiac Rehab who became her lifelong travel companions. With them, she visited Normandy, Mexico City, Tuscany, Scotland, the Azores and many others.
Norma is survived by her two sons, Brian and Mark Stone, and his partner Melissa Pinheiro, as well as her stepdaughter, Laura Chandler. She was the cherished sister of Richard Lind and his spouse, John Webb. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Alston, Garin and Cooper, who brought her immense pride and happiness.
Norma will be fondly remembered for her generosity, delicious buttermilk pancakes, her warmth, wicked sense of humor, and her love of family and friends. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Her funeral and burial services will be private. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School at www.riphil.org.
