

Providence: McCarthy, Patrick Francis, age 50, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 15th at Rhode Island Hospital. During his brief time in the hospital, he was visited by many of his friends. His loving family was at his bedside when he died. Patrick leaves his mother, Lois ( Guyon ) McCarthy and the late Gerald J. McCarthy and his family; Dennis and Gail McCarthy, David McCarthy, Michael McCarthy, Dan and Janet McCarthy, and Carolyn and Kenneth Kyle. He loved his nieces and nephews; Bryan, Courtney, Dan, Matt, Kate and Mary McCarthy. And next to his family, Patrick leaves behind a legion of caring friends and charities that meant everything to him. Patrick owned P&D Plumbing in Providence, RI. He had been a plumber for almost 40 years, having started as a child working alongside his father. Pat was who you called when you had an emergency in the middle of the night, or needed advice on how to fix something. He was known to his friends as "The Plumber" Beyond his profession, Patrick had a lifelong passion for helping local charities through volunteer work and philanthropy. As a young man, he recruited the neighborhood kids to run summer carnivals, which raised money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Special Olympics. Later in life, Patrick added other charities to his list, some of which included St. Mary's Home for Children, Friends Way, Fruit Hill Adult Day Care Center and the Cystic Fibrosis Association One of his largest fundraisers was the creation of the Providence Bar Run, which he started and managed for several years. This event raised money for numerous local charities including funds to support the family of a deceased friend. A man with a tremendous heart, he was known for helping out countless individuals in need. Patrick will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends.A celebration of Patrick's life will be held on Monday, July 19th from 4pm to 8 pm at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street Providence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Pius V. Church, Eaton St., on Tuesday, July 20th at 10:00 am. The mass will be celebrated by Patrick's good friend Fr. Joe Escobar. Graveside internment will be at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence.
