Paul J. Rylander

North Providence: Rylander, Paul John, Sr., 92, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at Briarcliff Manor in Johnston surrounded by loving family. He was the beloved husband of Agnes (Gilmartin) Rylander and dear father of Linda D'Ambra of Smithfield, Karen Salzillo and her husband Albert of Smithfield, Paul Rylander Jr. and his wife Susan of North Kingstown, and John Rylander and his wife Joyce of North Providence. He was the brother-in-law of Ruth Rylander of Greenville and father-in-law of Michael P. D'Ambra Jr. A loving grandfather and great grandfather, Paul was affectionately known as "Gramps" to his seven grandchildren - Matthew, Keri, Kara, Trisha, Jaina, Emily and Jessica - and as "Pa" to his eleven great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Born on September 28, 1918 in Providence, Paul was the son of the late Ernest A. Rylander and Rose M. (Nulty) Rylander and the devoted brother of the late Ernest Rylander, Rosalind Logee, and Ruth Creamer. Paul graduated from Providence College in 1942. He served in the United States Army/Air Force and was a veteran of WWII. He resided in North Providence and Stuart, Florida, and was a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years. He was also employed at Narragansett Race Track and Lincoln Greyhound Park.A kind, generous and loving man, Paul was a source of strength for all who knew him. He had a wonderful sense of humor and admirable sense of loyalty, commitment and courage. His sage advice and many life lessons will be treasured by his family for years to come.His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 22 at 8:15 AM from the Russell J. Boyle Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine Church, Mt. Pleasant Ave, Providence at 9:30AM. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Friday 4:00-7:00PM.
