He was the beloved son of the late Peter and Helen (Hebert) Szymczuk.
He was the loving brother of Linda Rogers and her husband, Paul; Paul Szymczuk and his wife, Denise; Helen Ducharme and her late husband, Gary; Barbara Landi and her husband, Ron; Ann Allard, Lisa Lopes and her late husband, Steven; Edmond Szymczuk and his wife Traci; Susan Harrop and her husband, Rick; and the late Mark Peters and his surviving partner Emilio.
He was the adored, quirky and ever-teasing uncle of many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grandnephews; many of whom he shared unique, cherished relationships and had created a funny nickname for each of them.
Pete grew up in the Union Village neighborhood of North Smithfield and lived there his entire life, dedicated to caring for his mom and the family home. He was a fixture in the neighborhood and was always ready to help anyone who needed it. He was a kind, honest person and always let you know where you stood with him.
He was a devoted Grateful Dead fan and was so proud of his collection of first-issue band t-shirts. A devout supporter of Donald Trump, he was always ready to discuss politics and conspiracy theories. He was passionate about literally everything he enjoyed, from cooking to politics to strawberries and cream Dr. Pepper. You could not end a discussion on one of these topics until he was sure you believed that it was “freakin awesome.”
There will be a graveside committal service for Pete on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Gaskill Street, Blackstone. Relatives and friends are invited to join together to celebrate his life.
Cared for by family friends at the Romano Funeral Home.
