Robert was a collector at heart, always drawn to items of every kind, and he loved a good puzzle, whether it was one he could hold in his hands or work out in his head. He enjoyed his sitcoms, his cars, and taking pictures every chance he got. He rooted faithfully for the Patriots and was happiest with his family around him.
Anyone who knew Robert knew his unmistakable sense of humor. He never passed up a pun or a dad joke, taking real delight in making people laugh and groan at the same time. During his last years in a nursing home, his full head of hair and slightly irascible wit made him a favorite among residents and staff alike.
Robert was resilient to the end. He endured more than his share of serious illness, meeting each challenge with quiet patience and acceptance.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Louise Tirocchi Chesney. He is survived by his son Robert Chesney, Robert’s partner Beth Mason, and Robert’s sons, Rocky and Joe; his son David Chesney and David’s wife, Leah, along with their children Nick, Alex, and Olivia; and his sister, Martha Leone. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous grand nieces, grand nephews, and great-grandchildren. Robert is additionally survived by his half-brother, Richard, who resides in New York, all of whom will carry his memory forward.
He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
His Visitation will be held on Friday July 3, 2026, from 9:00 am-11:00 am followed by a Funeral Home service at the Romano Funeral Home, 627 Union Avenue Providence RI, 02909. Burial will be private.
