Born on February 24, 1935, in Zebulon, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Robert and Mamie (High) Mangum. Bob was a devoted and hard-working individual who touched the lives of many.
Bob spent his early years in Zebulon and moved to Rhode Island at the age of 18. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he dedicated 30 years of his career as a foreman at Carlton Manufacturing before retiring. In his retirement, Bob continued to serve his community by working for the Central Falls School Department as a custodian for 16 years, where he was affectionately known as Mr. Bob by hundreds of students, teachers, and their families.
Bob was the beloved husband of Susan Osborne and the late Dominga (Pereira) Mangum. He was the loving father of Adrienne, David, Barbie, Carl, and Ericka Mangum, and a cherished grandfather to Steven, Terri-Lynn, Nickolas, Nikita, Deanna, Brandi, Mashiya, Marcus, Corey, Rashaan, Carlos, Carl Jr., Chelsie, Janel, and Jamal. He was also a great-grandfather to Quenten, Divae, Dariah, Devonte, Analise, Secara, Kassidie, Analiah, Ahmya-Lynn, and Honory. Bob is survived by his brother Alphonzo Mangum and was predeceased by Robert Miles, Lucille Scarborough, Lorenzo Mangum, Donnie Miles, Val Mangum, Mattie Coley, Margie Brown, and Walter Hall.
A skilled handyman and mechanic, Bob enjoyed building go-karts and sharing his skills with his children and family. Known as Uncle Bob, Tank, and Dad to many, he was a father figure to an entire generation.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2nd, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of his life from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Burial will be private.
