

Providence Roland J. Desaulniers, 82, of Providence, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at Roger Williams Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy A. (Decedric) Desaulniers. They were happily married for sixty-one years. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, a son of the late Roland J. and Mildred (Lyons) Desaulniers, he lived in Providence most of his life. Roland was employed by Citizens Bank for over twenty-eight years, and spent most of his career at the Centerdale Branch in North Providence, both as Manager and then as Vice President, before retiring in 1975. He was a 1947 graduate of LaSalle Academy, and a 1964 graduate of Williams College School of Banking. During his career, Roland served on numerous civic and charitable boards and committees, including Vice President of Volunteers in Action, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, past president of the Elmhurst Little League and former Director of Union Bank, North Providence. In October, 2006, Roland was inducted into the Fox Point Boy's Club Hall of Fame. He was a communicant of Saint Pius V Church. Besides his wife Dorothy, he leaves a son, David J. Desaulniers and his wife Wendy; a daughter, Susan M. Richardson and her husband Kenneth; four loving grandchildren; Devon J. and Derek J. Desaulniers and Kayla A. and Rebecca R. Richardson; a brother, Robert J. Desaulniers; two sisters, Doris M. Wagner and Joan L. Dawson; and several nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Norman F. Desaulniers. The funeral will be held Wednesday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Pius V Church, Eaton Street, Providence. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 - 8 pm.
