Rudolf "Rudy" Nicola Coppola, 90, passed into eternal rest on March 11, 2014. He was the husband of the late Gilda (Giammarco) Coppola. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Victoria (Iacobellis) Coppola and Arthur Coppola, Sr.
Mr. Coppola was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy from 1941-1945 when he was honorably discharged. Earning during his service the Asiatic Navy Veteran 2nd class Petty Officer medal and several military ribbons. He enjoyed telling his family and friends of his experiences in the war where he served extensively in the Pacific Theater.
He is survived by his children, Michael J. Coppola and his wife Karleen, Marilyn Coppola and her partner Kelsie Bryer, and Debra Coppola and her husband Jery Potenza. He was the grandfather of Talia Coppola, and a brother of Arthur Coppola, Jr. of Cranston and Beatrice McCarthy of Johnston. He was also the father of the late Arthur "Arturo" Coppola.
Visitation and funeral will be held Friday 9:30-10:30 a.m. from the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Burial with military honors in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
