Russell F. Charron, 73, passed away on September 28, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with illness. He was the beloved longtime partner of Mary L. Steinkamp, with whom he shared 31 years of love and companionship.
Born in Cranston, he was a son of the late Paul and Barbara (Peters) Charron. Russell made his home in West Warwick for more than 20 years and also previously lived in Cranston for several years.
A remarkably talented craftsman and master woodworker, Russell built a career around his natural ability to create beautiful things with his hands. For more than 20 years, he worked alongside his brother Douglas at the family-owned Charron Supply Plumbing on Potters Avenue, where he served as a manager. His entrepreneurial spirit later led him to establish his own business, Charron Vanity and Custom Cabinets, which he operated for more than a decade. He went on to share his talents in carpentry and cabinetry with various companies throughout his career.
Russell took tremendous pride in his craft and was especially known for his exceptional cabinetry and woodworking. His talent even brought him to a showcase event in Reno, Nevada, where he earned second place for his woodworking, an accomplishment that reflected the skill, precision, and dedication he brought to his work.
Outside of his profession, Russell had a lifelong love of sports. He was the manager and owner of the Charron Expos baseball team, where his brother Brad proudly served as bat boy. He particularly enjoyed basketball and baseball and was an enthusiastic supporter of New England sports teams.
Russell also had a passion for anything with an engine. He especially loved American-made cars, hot rods, and fast cars, and was the proud owner of a Cobra. His enthusiasm extended to motorcycles as well, including his Harley-Davidson. Russell was also an animal lover who had a special fondness for dogs, sharing his life over the years with beloved pit bulls and a husky.
In addition to Mary, Russell is survived by his brother, Brad Bacon and his wife Karen; and his sister, Barbara-Jean Charron Sousa. He was predeceased by his brother, Douglas Charron, and his sister, Denise Bacon. Russell was also a cherished uncle to several nieces and nephews and great-uncle to several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Russell will be remembered for his remarkable craftsmanship, his independent and entrepreneurial spirit, and the passion he brought to the many things he loved. Whether working with his hands, cheering on his favorite teams, enjoying a beautiful car or motorcycle, or spending time with those closest to him, Russell lived life with enthusiasm and remained true to the person he was. His memory will live on in the family and friends who loved him and in the many beautiful things he created throughout his life.
His visitation will be held Wednesday, October 7th, from 10:00-11:00 am in the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, followed by a service in the funeral home at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
