

CranstonRuth Grimes, 81, died January 3, 2008, surrounded by her family at the Haven Heath Center, Coventry. Formally of Lyndon Road in Cranston, Ruth lived most her life in the West End of Providence. Ruth served in the Rhode Island State Senate for two terms from District 10. She succeeded her brother, Senator Raymond E. Grimes of Warwick in the State Senate, who later became Deputy Director of the Rhode Island Lottery. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Peter J. and Helen M. (Sheehan) Grimes, she was the owner of the Ruth Grimes Beauty Salon on Cranston Street in Providence for many years. She was later appointed Chief Hairdresser Inspector for the Rhode Island Department of Health, where she served for twenty years. Ruth was a communicant of the Church of the Assumption. She was the secretary of the Eighth Ward Democratic Committee for many years, a member of the Providence Democratic City Committee, past president of the Women's Democratic Club of Rhode Island, a member the Rhode Island Association of Former Legislators; past Treasurer of the Kelly Garezzo V.F.W Post 2812 Ladies Auxiliary, and President of the Residents Council of the Haven Health Center, Coventry. Besides her brother Raymond, Ruth is survived by three nephews, Brian J Glancy, John F. Glancy, (Ret. Capt. P.P.D.), Bruce J. Glancy, (P.P.D.); a niece, Robin M. Glancy; two grand nieces, Cristina Glancy and Samantha Glancy; and a grandnephew Matthew P. Glancy. Ruth was the aunt of the late Rosemary H. Glancy, and sister of the late Helen M. Glancy.The funeral will be held on Monday, January 7, 2008 at 9:30 A.M. from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road Warwick R.I. (Exit 10A Rt. 95) Route 117. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 791 Potters Avenue, Providence. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Sunday, 2 - 5 pm.
