Ruth M. Young

Ruth Young, 78, of 3 Tunmore Rd. Smithfield, RI lived brilliantly until January 19, 2012. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family with the support of Home and Hospice Care of RI.She was the wife of the late Thomas Young, Sr., was born in Bronx, NY, and was the daughter of the late Elizabeth and George Kelly. She was a sister of the late George Kelly, Jr.Ruth and Tom raised seven grateful children, Tom, Jr., of Pawtucket, Stephen of Cummington, MA, Laura of Barrington, Elizabeth Sundaram of Lincoln, Anthony of Coventry, Teresa Primo of Pawtucket and Susan of Smithfield. She had the abiding love and support of her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. She extended this family bond to many people throughout her life, creating life-long friendships.She was proud to have achieved her RN at the age of 50. She worked at Spaulding Rehab in Boston, and retired from Rhode Island Hospital. In addition to all of this, she was committed to community service, including the Crystal Run School in upstate NY, The Insight Organization for the Blind, the PACE Organization of RI.From her childhood in the Caretti Clan, to her final moments with her children and grandchildren, Ruth participated in her relationships with her friends and family with love always, compassion, acceptance, humor with a fair bit of sarcasm and wide-eyed wonder. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 9 am in Saint Patrick Church, Smith St., Providence.Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012 from 4 to 8 pm
