KEITLEN, SEYMOUR, MD, 87, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018. He was born in Jersey City, NJ, the son of the late William and Nette (Bloomberg) Keitlen. He was preceded by his 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Seymour studied at Rutgers University and received a Master’s of Science in Philosophy from Columbia University in 1962. He was a decorated Korean War veteran in the Army's 13th Infantry (Medical Corp). In 1955, he was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal and honorably discharged.
Seymour, on the GI bill, received his MD from the University of Geneva in 1961. Post-graduation he was the Chief of Psychiatry at Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center. He also maintained a private practice and taught at S.U.N.Y at Stonybrook. He was previously married to Liane Keitlen (FL), the mother of his 3 daughters.
He was a self-taught artist, specializing in oil painting, with styles ranging from still lifes, nudes, landscapes, portraits, and abstracts. Seymour was fluent in 5 languages, an accomplished author of 6 books, a paid translator, and over the course of his life lived all over Europe, Mexico, and the United States.
He is survived by his daughters Julia Lombardo, Jessica Keitlen, and Laura Keitlen (Susan Baumes).
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 7th at 12:30 PM at Sugarman-Sinai Memorial Chapel, 458 Hope St, Providence with burial in RI Veterans' Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Elizabeth's Community, 2364 Post Rd, Suite #100, Warwick, RI 02886 or to the animal charity of your choice. Shiva will be held at the home of Laura Keitlen and Susan Baumes, Thursday 4-7 PM and Friday 2-6 PM.
