LEDERBERG, SEYMOUR, 84, died Friday, February 1, 2013. He was the husband of the late Justice Victoria (Santopietro) Lederberg. Born in Bronx, NY he was a son of the late Rabbi Tzvi and Esther (Goldenbaum) Lederberg. Dr. Lederberg was a graduate of Stuyvesant High School in NY, Phi Beta Kappa at Cornell University and earned his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana. He was a Professor of Microbiology and Genetics at Brown University for almost 50 years. While at Brown he served as Chairman for the Dept. of Molecular Biology, was the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies in Biology and Medicine and was the author of over 30 scientific publications. He also taught at the Boston University Schools of Law and Public Health. Dr. Lederberg was a Navy Veteran of WWII. He is survived by his children, Tobias Lederberg and his wife Michele of Providence and Sarah Lederberg Stone and her husband Jordan of Westwood, MA; a brother Dov Lederberg of Jerusalem; and grandchildren, Risa, Alexandra, Eli, Ezra, Noah and Oren. He was the brother of the late Joshua Lederberg. His funeral services will be held on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Temple Beth-El, 70 Orchard Ave., Providence at 9:30 AM.
