

WARWICK - KENNEY, Thomas E., 77, of Quaker Lane, died Tuesday at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of C. Patricia (Hanley) Kenney. They had been married for 52 years. Born in Providence, a son of the late Francis and Julia (Nichols) Kenney, he had lived in Providence until moving to Warwick in 1981. Mr. Kenney had been a Lieutenant with the Providence Fire Department. He was appointed to the Department on March 8, 1955, and served for 22 years before retiring from the Department in 1976. He later worked as the Head of Security and Fire Safety at the former RI Hospital Trust Bank in Providence for 23 years, retiring in 2000. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Providence Firefighter's Union, Local 799, and the Providence Permanent Fireman's Relief Association. He was a communicant of St. Gregory the Great Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He had been a coach for the Olneyville Little League for 13 years, and was a Pack Leader for the Boy Scouts with Pack 93 at Laurel Hill Avenue School. He was an avid golfer and sports fan, and had recorded a Hole in One on June 12, 1998 at Laurel Lane Golf Course. Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Thomas E. Kenney, Jr. (Lt. Prov. FD) of Warwick, Kevin F. Kenney of East Greenwich, Timothy M. Kenney of Warwick, Terrence A. Kenney of West Warwick, and Daniel P. Kenney of North Providence, and Julie C. DeFusco of Foster, 16 grandchildren and a great grandson. He was the brother of the late Mary Flaherty, Dorothy Anderson, and Francis Kenney. His funeral will be Saturday at 8:45am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd., Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation Friday 4-8pm.
