Tobee S. (Deixler) McMellon, age 81, of Block Island, Rhode Island and Brooklyn, New York, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021 at her Block Island residence. She was the wife of Charles A. “Chuck” McMellon to whom she has been married for the past 58 years.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Ethel (Freeman) Deixler. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Commercial Art and two Master degrees one in Art History and in Art Education for Children.
She worked as a commercial artist in the advertising industry in the Manhattan area and retired as a teacher from the New York City School Department.
Mrs. McMellon enjoyed painting. She served on the Board for the Block Island Historical Society and was recently named Board Member Emeritus.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her twin sons, Charles McMellon Jr. and his wife Phoebe and Edward McMellon and his partner Anllel all of Brooklyn, NY; one brother, Michael Deixler and his wife Bronner; five grandchildren, Kayla, Aidan, Kiera, Aaron and Liam; niece Heather and nephew Josh.
Her graveside service will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 1:00 PM in Block Island Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited.
