Vincenzo (Vincent) L. Federico, age 95, passed away April 7, 2022, at home with his loving family. He was a son of the late Giuseppe and Marianna (Tedeschi) Federico; beloved husband (for 65 years) of the late Janet C. (Lanzieri) Federico; loving father of Marilyn Federico Gomes and her husband Kenneth Gomes, Sr., Lorraine Stifano, Richard Federico and his wife Olga, and Ann Lapolla and her husband Michael; brother of the late Julia Luongo, Louis Federico, and Mary Bertoldi; brother in law of Pasquale Bertoldi; and cherished grandfather of the late Robert Marini, and of Erica and Andres Lindo, Joseph and Whitney Federico, Lauren and Samuel Grossman, Christina and Matthew Vittoria, M. Jonathan Lapolla; great-grandfather of Sebastian, Gabriella, Luciana, Grayson, Hudson, Adeline, Cecilia, and Atticus. Papa Boozie was also an amazing Uncle and Papa to many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Vin lived with his daughter and full-time caregiver, Lorraine. While they were fun traveling companions before and after Mom passed, Lorraine was the primary reason he lived comfortably to almost 96 years of age. Her love and devotion 24 hours a day, 7 days per week was a vocation and allowed Vin to stay in his own home until his passing.
Springtime in the Federico house was exciting. While other families identified spring by flowers blooming, Vin and his family marked the beginning of spring by the crack of a baseball bat. After many years as a player, Vin transitioned his passion for the game from the diamond to the stands. His lifelong passion and support of the Boston Red Sox began when he attended his first game in 1936 with his Dad, against the Cleveland Indians, first ever Opening Day game at Fenway in 1940, and celebrated the long-awaited World Series wins in 2004, 2007, 2013, and 2018. Each win bringing more excitement to Vin than to a child on Christmas morning- how ironic that his passing was on the scheduled Opening Day for his beloved team. Vin was also a devoted Celtics fan since its founding in 1946. Sports were a big part of his life.
Vin’s other passion was his family! Nothing pleased and comforted him more than spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Whether that was his weekly card games with his siblings for over 60 years, his many trips to Florida over the years to visit Richard and his family, or his numerous trips to Atlantic City, or the countless baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse or tennis games of his children and grandchildren, Vin found true enjoyment in attending every event possible. He often found himself saying, “I attended LaSalle Academy for 12 consecutive years!”
He was a jokester from dawn to dusk, telling the same old jokes over and over again with each generation laughing harder than the last.
Vin proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII, in the Philippines. He was a truck driver for Kraft’s division of Sealtest Ice Cream Company for many years and closer to retirement he spent his days as a beloved school bus driver.
His visitation will be held Wednesday 8:30-9:30 a.m. from the Pontarelli-Marino Home, 971 Branch Ave, Providence, MASKS ARE REQUIRED, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Pius V Church, 55 Elmhurst Ave, Providence. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Pius V Church, www.spvchurch.org.
