
William J. Hynes, 56, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 7th, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie B. (McAlister) Hynes.Born in Providence, he was a son of William H. Hynes (Detective, P.P.D. Ret.) and Elizabeth A. (Hogan) Hynes.Before retirement in 1990 due to illness, he was a service technician for the former New England Telephone & Telegraph Company, now Verizon, for over 20 years. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 2322. He was co-founder and president of R. I. Herpetological Association for 15 years. During his illness he was a volunteer at Roger Williams Park Zoo from 1990-1996.He lived in Providence before moving to North Smithfield five years ago. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. His hobbies included, wood and gem cutting, gun smithing, and archery.Beside his wife, mother and father, he leaves three daughters, Elizabeth A. Wood, Sarah P. Hynes, and Kathryn McAlister; and a son, Steven A. McAlister, Petty Officer U.S. Navy; two brothers, Stephen B. Hynes and Kevin H. Hynes; five grandchildren, Colin, Nora, twelve-day old twins, Deirdre and Declan Wood, and JosephMcAlister.His funeral will be held on Monday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Academy Ave., Providence. Burial in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
