

ProvidenceWilliam R. Lyons, 73, of Surrey Park Drive, Port Orange, Florida, died Saturday at home. He was the husband of the late Dolores (Quirini) Lyons. Born in Providence, a son of the late Henry and Emma (McDermott) Lyons, he lived in the Smith Hill neighborhood most of his life before moving to Florida ten years ago. Mr. Lyons was a laborer for the City of Providence, Department of Public Works, for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Laborers International Union of North America for thirty-eight years. He leaves three sons, William R. Lyons, Jr., John Lyons, and Joseph Lyons; three daughters, Donna Lyons, Patricia Lyons and Linda Lyons; a brother, Robert Lyons; twenty-two grandchildren, including Jessica and Jason Lyons, and three great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Brenda Lyons and brother of the late Henry Lyons, Jr. and Edmond Lyons. The funeral and visitation will be held Thursday morning, at 8:00 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Patrick Church, 244 Smith Street, Providence. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
