

William McGee Sr., 84, passed away November 15, 2016. He was the husband of the late Jane (Myers) McGee. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John J. and Alice M. (Gates) McGee. He was the beloved father of Jean Marie McGee of Narragansett, William McGee Jr. and his wife Brenda of New Bedford, MA and Michael P. McGee and his wife Karyn of Rumford, and grandfather of Kathryn, Meaghan and Patrick McGee. He was the brother of the late Margaret Fennessey and John J. McGee.
Mr. McGee worked many years for the Rhode Island Department of Public Transportation (RIPTA) where he worked in the maintenance dept. and served as Vice President and Acting President of Local 618 Amalgamated Transit Union. Bill was known in the community as the "Ambassador" who loved his Irish heritage, and a good time, never missing a St. Patrick's Day Parade and the visiting of all Pubs Irish. Bill belonged to many Clubs and Organizations such as Cranston Police Department, Emergency Police, the Fraternal Order of Police Emerald Society, Ancient Order of Hybeirnians, Ireland 32, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and the Smithfield Elks.
Visitation Friday, 9-10:15 a.m. in the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Ave., Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret Church, 1098 Pawtucket Ave., Rumford. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Sisters of Mercy, Northeast Community Mission Fund, 15 Highland View Road, Cumberland, RI 02864-1124.
