

Johnston William F. McLaughlin, Sr., 78 of Simmonsville Avenue, died Wednesday at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara A. (Fallon) McLaughlin.Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Edward J. and Kathleen (Dailey) McLaughlin, Sr. Mr. McLaughlin was a ship fitter for the General Dynamics Company in Quonset Point for the past 13 years before retiring in 1993. He also worked as a typesetter in various print shops for many years.Bill served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Army. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed bow hunting and fly fishing, and was a member of the Narragansett Bow Hunters Club.He leaves two sons William F. (Susan) McLaughlin Jr., John J. (Tracey) McLaughlin; two daughters, Karen M. (Stephen) Tancredi, and Barbara A. (William) McKenna, three brothers, Dennis, Thomas, and Kevin McLaughlin; five grandchildren, William McLaughlin, III, Christopher McKenna, Justin McKenna, Paydan McLaughlin, and Matalyn McLaughlin. He was the grandfather of the late Patrick and Aidan McLaughlin and brother of the late Edward McLaughlin Jr.His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, with a funeral service beginning at 11:30. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Monday evening, 5 to 8 pm.
