William J. Ormond

Ormond, William J. (Bill), age 81 of Sachem Drive, died Wednesday March 24, 2010 at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia M. Ormond (McGowan). Born in Providence, a son of the late John and Helen (Walsh), he had lived in the City of Cranston for the past 50 years. William attended LaSalle Academy, served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and graduated from Providence College. He was employed as a Claims Adjuster for INA Insurance, Allendale Insurance, and Waite Hill Colony Insurance; retiring in 1994. He was a communicant of St. Ann's Church, and was active in ministries and activities over the past 50 years. William was a brother of Kathleen Hamilton of Coventry, John Ormond of Warwick, Michael Ormond and his wife Theresa of North Kingstown, and the late Marie Ormond. He leaves four children, Margaret A. "Peg" Ormond of Pawtucket, Daniel G. Ormond and his wife Jacqueline, Diane M. Macera and her husband John, and Patricia A. Sova; all of Cranston. Papa's pride and joys were his grandchildren: Daniel, Brendan, and Joshua Macera; Bridget, Sean, and Kailey Sova; Daniel and Michael Ormond. He beamed at watching his grandchildren's involvement in tee-ball, high school baseball, theatrical plays, and Irish step-dancing. His favorite past-times were watching sporting events, especially Providence College basketball games and playing high low-jack with family and friends. His family and friends will miss his smile, stories, singing, and his IRISH sense of humor. His funeral will be held on MONDAY at 8:45am from The RUSSELL J. BOYLE & SON Funeral Home 331 Smith St., PROVIDENCE, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Ann Church 1493 Cranston St., Cranston. Interment will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.
