

Anthony “Popeye” Melito, born Sept 2, 1928, departed this life November 7, 2014 in Pueblo. Popeye had been residing at the Villa Pueblo since March 2007 prior to his death. Tony served 4 years in the Korean War in the US Navy on a battleship. He was preceded in death by his loving mother Louise Mae Caphone Fair Melito, siblings Lucy Fair Vadnel, Fred Fair, Adolph Fair, John Fair, Medal of Honor recipient James (Mary) Melito, Elizabeth Melito Marcelja, and Kathryn Mae Melito VanderValk. He is survived by his nephew Gordon (Becky) VanderValk, niece Sheilah (Mark) VanderValk Whitlock both of Pueblo, niece Barbara Vadnel Brandt, and nephew Kenneth Vadnel both of Phoenix, AZ. Tony also had numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Tony was a hard worker who retired from the Colorado Fuel and Iron (CF&I) after 40 years in the Tube Mill. They all knew him as “Popeye”. He was devoted to his mother and siblings. Tony loved fishing, Christmas Holidays, and his Denver Broncos. He was an avid member of St. Therese Catholic Church. Anthony believed in a strong family, even though he didn’t have one of his own, he had all of us! He will be greatly missed.
