Catherine Ure, passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2020. She was born on December 31, 1939 to Candelario and Felipa (Marmolejo) Hernandez. She is survived by her children, Gerald (Lora) Ure and Kim (Brian) Meine; sisters, Lillie Hurtado and Rose Dhondt; grandchildren, Aaron (Kristi) Ure, Eric (April) Ure, Rachel Meine, Alexis Meine, Rebecca (Martin) Earhart, Jennie (Michael) DiGrado; and nine great-grandchildren.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy Ure; parents; sisters, Beatrice Hernandez, Rachel Bradley, Margaret Peulen, and Virginia Romero; and brother, Salvador “Joe” Hernandez.
Catherine grew up across the street from Mineral Palace Park Greenhouse and Park. She shared so many stories of her spending time in the greenhouse playing hide and go seek with siblings and friends, pushing baby strollers down the bridge that crosses the lake. She worked at Maid Rites which is now the Parks art building. She graduated from Centennial High School.
Catherine attended Southern Colorado State College seeking a degree in art and education. She was a substitute teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School in 1962-1963. Her students still remember her today.
Catherine received an Outstanding Service Recognition of 30 Years Award from the Pueblo County USDA Food Program. Her dedication to the program remained well past the time she worked there.
Perhaps the time in the Park Greenhouse or running thru the Park flower beds instilled in her the love for flowers. Every summer it was a guarantee that she was planting more flowers and tending to those she had.
Family and friends were always assured that she would have baked goods when they came to visit. Catherine loved to bake. Not one pie, but several pies. Other specialties: cinnamon rolls, banana bread, Christmas cookies, cream puffs and the list goes on. Catherine would ensure anyone who came would not leave hungry. That included her cats and dogs. Meals she prepared: traditional Mexican foods, country ribs and roasts.
She loved to travel going to Mexico several times, traveled to Europe and various road trips around Colorado. She enjoyed the trips to Cripple Creek and had her slot machines picked out.
Catherine leaves to cherish other fond memories from numerous other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
The family wishes to thank all of you who would stop by and visit mom throughout the years.
Due to COVID 19 restrictions, the family will not be hosting a reception at this time.
