Charles Edgar Englebrecht was born in Yates Center, KS on August 24, 1932, to Charles and Theo. Ed grew up on a farm, graduated high school and then joined the Navy. He was a radar man on a naval destroyer during the Korean War. He was a construction worker who enjoyed his work and who continued to work on and manage building projects for many years past retirement age. For more than 20 years, Ed along with his wife and family, loved and cared for foster babies awaiting adoption.
He married Gloria Dean Ard on July 31, 1954, with whom he shared 70 plus years. He was father to Jack Englebrecht, Chuck Englebrecht, and Kelly Englebrecht-Fisher, and father-in-law to Tom Fisher. He was Papa to Katie Englebrecht, Matt Fisher, Tim Fisher and his wife Mary Lola, and Zach Fisher and his wife, Elizabeth. He was Great Papa to Julien Englebrecht, Noa Cornish, Nora Fisher, Arthur Krause, and Welkin Fisher.
Along with Gloria, Ed enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling the states of this beautiful country and visiting the National Parks. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends while sharing life with Gloria.
Ed was a man of faith who, together with Gloria, became a Christian in 1957. When sharing a recent personal testimony, Ed mentioned that his drivers license told him he was 92, but in fact, he was only 67, because real life began for him when he met Jesus Christ as his Savior. He loved reading God’s word as well as memorizing scripture. He was a humble man of prayer who was loved and respected by many. We will miss him very much.
