Charles Alden Vail, 88, was born in Atoka, OK Oct. 20, 1922 and died Dec. 29, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Lee Vail; son, Denny; brothers, Ralph, James, John, and Bill; sisters, Nell and Lois; and loving friend Georgia Mabry. He is survived by his daughter, Dottie (Tom) Rougas, and son, Charles A. (Sandy Taylor) Vail, Jr.; sister, Ruth (Ken) Myer; grandchildren, Stacie (Eric) Reding, Nonie (Beau) Hawkins, Sam Rougas, and Rochelle Berumen; daughter-in-law Gidget (Lawrence) Bailey; and great-grandchildren, Nonie, Alexander, and Sam. Charles graduated from Central High School in 1940 and enlisted in the US Navy, Pacific Fleet, serving throughout WWII from 1940-1946. He joined the Postal Service and was the first career employee to become Postmaster. He played and coached softball and basketball and directed the choirs at Lake Avenue and Calvary Baptist Churches. Memorial service 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4 at Christ Congregational Church, corner of Bonforte Blvd. and Liberty Lane in Belmont.
