Christine was born on October 9th,1952 in Laramie, Wyoming. She deeply loved her mother and spent her childhood with her sisters, her grandparents, and her material aunts and uncles. The University of Wyoming campus, the Ivinson Mansion, and LaBonte Park- where she would ice skate and once painted the historical train engine pink with her sisters and friends- were her favorite spots, along with the open prairie and billowing clouds surrounding Laramie. Her father was often away on fur trapping and logging jobs, which she got the opportunity to join, to her great joy.
In 1969, her mother died at the age of 42, leaving 17-year-old Christine an orphan. Facing the prospect of becoming a ward of the state, she fled to Fort Stockton, California where her sister Charlene was located. She was able to complete her GED and enter the University of the Pacific, where she earned her Associates of Arts and was employed by the Bank of Stockton. Her banking knowledge and experience would support her for many years, and she became active in many business associations and Chambers of Commerce in California. This period of her included moves to North Carolina, her first marriage and divorce, the purchase of her first and second houses, and her eventual move to Colorado Springs, Colorado.
In 1990, she met Jerry Curtis while dancing at the Silver Saddle in Pueblo. Her daughter, Audrey Curtis, was born in July of 1991. In 1997, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Colorado State University - Pueblo with Bachelors of Business Administration with a major in Accounting. Together, Christine and Jerry were able to build a comfortable life together with their daughter and purchased the house that would remain her home for the rest of her life. In 2003, Christine obtained her Substitute Teaching license for Pueblo District 60 schools. She remained a substitute teacher until 2020, drawing on her own personal experience with hardship, her creative and fun personality, and her natural care and concern to help guide and support many students during their school careers.
Christine’s greatest love was her family, whom she cared for and supported in countless ways. She maintained a wonderful garden, complete with a feeding area for the birds. She loved to sew and craft, and took great joy in decorating for the holidays. She enjoyed cooking and baking, sharing many culinary adventures with her daughter. She was a supporter of many charitable causes, prominently the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, the Central Texas Tortoise Rescue, and Samaritan’s Purse. She is missed for her humor and cutting wit, her wisdom and knowledge, her creativity, her quiet comfort, and her happy spirit.
A memorial service and inurnment will be held at the Last Supper section of Imperial Memorial Gardens in Pueblo on Friday, April 24th 2026 at 1 PM. Donations may be made to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
