

Donald Cortese, 86, of Pueblo, Colorado, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 12, 1939, (Goat Hill) in Pueblo, Donald lived a life filled with love, laughter, loyalty, and unforgettable memories.
Donald was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Tony and Jennie Cortese. He is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife, Dawn Cortese, with whom he shared 60 beautiful years of marriage. Together they built a life centered around family, friendship, and unconditional love. He is also survived by his son, Darren (Nancy) Cortese and twin brother Ronnie (Connie) Cortese.
He was a proud and loving grandfather to Mark and Andrew Cortese, and a great-grandfather to Aurora, Alice, Brooklynn and Andi Cortese, Payton Kniesly, and Michael Gray-Coble. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will forever treasure his kindness, humor, and generous spirit.
Donald retired from the CF&I and was a proud steelworker who enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Union Hall. He faithfully attended St. Joseph Church every Sunday morning.
A passionate mentor and coach, Donald dedicated 19 years to coaching women’s softball. He loved the game, but even more, he loved encouraging and supporting the young women he coached.
In his younger years, Donald enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors. Some of his most cherished moments were spent fishing with his grandson Andrew, creating memories. Donald also loved taking road trips with Dawn to Cripple Creek, where the two shared laughter, adventure, and special moments together.
Donald was a devoted Colorado sports fan who rarely missed cheering on his favorite teams — the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, and Colorado Avalanche. Whether celebrating a win or enduring a tough season, his loyalty to his teams never faded.
Those who knew Donald will remember his infectious laugh, his gift for storytelling. He had a strong work ethic, and a deep love for his family. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and strength to so many.
Though he will be deeply missed, Donald’s legacy of love, family, laughter, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
