

Donald (Don) William Sanchez was born on December 6, 1944 in Canon City Colorado to Salvador and Fern Sanchez and peacefully passed away in Pueblo Colorado on May 31st, 2026. Don grew up in Westcliffe Colorado and attended Custer County high school where he excelled in both football and basketball before graduating in 1962.
In 1964, Don began a career with the United States Department of Agriculture as a soil conservation technician, a career which would span over 7 decades until 2025.
Don served as a US Army reservist from 1965-1971 until he received an honorable discharge.
On November 10, 1967, Don married the love of his life, Shirley Fisher, a marriage which lasted for over 57 years. Don was a lifelong Denver Broncos fan and a supporter of CSU Pueblo sports from 2008 until his passing. Don was proceed in death by his parents, Salvador and Fern Sanchez, sister, Joyce Laughlin, his favorite uncle, Johnny Cowan, infant son, Andrew and wife, Shirley Sanchez. Don is survived by his 3 sons; Donald Jr (Angela) Sanchez of Baytown TX, Darren and Brad Sanchez of Walsenburg, Colorado, grandson Robert Sanchez, numerous brothers and sisters in law, and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, 1 PM, at the Walsenburg Church of Christ located at 416 Walsen Ave., Walsenburg, CO. 81089
