Dorris I. Landerway born March 13, 1916 in Moberly, Missouri to Eugene and Zettia Mitchell who preceded her in death, entered into eternal rest January 21, 2012 at the Parkview Nursing Care Facility. Dorris met and married Frank J. Landerway in 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland, to this first union one child. The second union of marriage to Frank in 1967 in New York, New York added six additional children. Frank preceded Dorris in death in 2002.

Attributes:
Moving from Kingston, New York to Colorado City fulfilled her desire and thirst to do all she could to make a Veterans life better. This made her realize her goals and she began volunteering at Veteran Nursing Homes calling BINGO, giving gifts and her favorite, cookies. She joined the VFW Ladies Auxiliary 7305 and her first position was Guard, then before long President of the Auxiliary. She ran for department President was won unanimously. From 1994 until 1995 she served with tenacity. Her greatest aim was to make all aware of the needs for our men and women who serve to protect our country. In Dorris’ words “without them, we wouldn’t have this wonderful free country to live in.”
Dorris other attributes were joining the services of the Senior Resource Development Association (SRDA) in Pueblo where she graduated with honors after completing a 40 hour seminar. She worked at the Colorado City Day Care until it closed. She then started working at the Rye Elementary School where she served as reader in the library, setting up computers for the children’s testing. Dorris retired in 2011 to the dismay of all the children who loved her dearly.
Dorris theme for living was ”Love Everyone”, “Be kind to one another”, “Do All you can while you can” and one of her favorites “Live one day at a time”
Dorris leaves to cherish her home going, one brother Joseph E. Mitchell & Doris of Charlotte, North Carolina, two sons Frank (Buddy) Jr. of Albany, New York, Claude & Debra (a dear friend) of Midland, Michigan, four daughters Luella Wright of Colorado City, Colorado, Elizabeth McMillian, Amy Landerway & rev Shirley and Gary Whitlock all of Kingston, New York. One daughter Lynn preceded her in death. Grandchildren LeRoy, Quaine, Joshua, Wanda Jean, Darren, Tyrone, Regina, Veronica, Tatum, Jesse, Kelly and Donald.; 14 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one sister-in-law Betty Mitchell of Omaha, Nebraska, a host of nephews and nieces. Also many, many friends that she held dear to her heart.
