Ernest “Ernie” M. DeHerrera, 97, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 18, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on February 9, 1929, in Rouse, Colorado. He was the cherished son of Fidel and Lucy and the brother of Edward, Archie, Sophie, Lydia, Josie, and Oress. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his beloved children Sandra Hilton, Wayne (Lorrie) DeHerrera, and Debra (Richard) Kottenstette, and his loving companion, Mary Easton. He also leaves an everlasting legacy in the hearts of his treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who he loved to spoil at every chance he got. He also leaves to cherish his memory numerous cousins and friends who adored him. Ernest’s days working as a calibration technician for the Pueblo Army Depot provided him and his family the opportunity to travel far and wide across the United States. Later, he experienced much success as a business owner in both Pueblo and Denver. Upon retirement, he joined his son Wayne at DeHerrera Music. He was an accomplished musician, skilled on guitar, mandolin, and fiddle. He was never happier than when he was on stage at the Red Barn, playing music and singing for his family and friends at his legendary gatherings and celebrations. Ernest was a fiercely loyal Broncos fan and never missed an opportunity to cheer for his team in good times and in bad. His was a life well lived, full of unwavering faith, devoted family, beautiful music, and unconditional love. As he rests in eternal glory with his Father and is reunited with those who went before him, we give thanks to the Lord for the extraordinary life of Ernest.
