

Eugene J. Benson, 93, of Pueblo West, CO passed away on February 22, 2021 at Spanish Peaks Regional Veterans Community Living Center in Walsenburg, CO. He was the widower of Ida G. Benson (nee Svendsbye).
Born in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of Thomas W. and Marie R. Benson. He was graduated from North Catholic High School for Boys in Phila., PA. In August 1945, at the age of 17, as World War II was coming to a close, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. After graduating from bootcamp his Military Occupational Specialty was as a Supply Administrator. He served in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. After 25 years of proud and honorable service he retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. He then went on to attain a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from George Washington University wherein as a natural logistician he managed the University’s bookstore.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas W and Marie R. Benson, his loving wife of 36 years, Ida G (nee Svendsbye), his older brother Thomas J. and younger brother Walter W.
Mary L. Benson of Alexandria, VA and Bernice A. Wingartz and her husband, Hans of Whispering Pines, NC survive Eugene. 3 nieces and 3 nephews also survive him: Kathleen M. Creighton of Lancaster, PA; Richard T. Benson of Lancaster, PA; Thomas J. Benson of Kingston, GA; Debra A. Benson of Mission Viejo, CA; Karen Small of Benton, LA and Mark W. Benson of Glendale, CA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Pueblo, CO., officiated by Father Anthony Wojcinski. Burial is to take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. with all military privileges performed. Reception will be held immediately after the burial, all invited to attend.
