Evelyn “Mykee” Dolores Meiu, born November 11, 1930, in Gary, Indiana, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on February 1, 2026. She went to be with her Lord and Savior at the home of her daughter Judy and son-in-law Paul, where she had been staying due to health concerns.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Walter Turek; her siblings, Louise, Edward, Theodore, and Jeannie; her beloved husband of 59 years, Richard “Dick” Meiu; and her special angels, Cindy Jean and Linda Susan.
She is survived by her three daughters, Debbie Alexander, Judy (Paul) Pavlich, and Kelly Jean Meiu; six grandchildren, Cindy (Trinity) Smith, Nikki Pavlich (Justin), Brian Alexander, Winter (Jason) Watson, Jeremy Alexander, and Sierra (CJ) Crow; nine great-grandchildren, including Colby and Eleanor Smith, who always loved staying at “Grammy’s” house. She is also survived by her sister, Charlotte “Dolores” (Casey) Bugay; numerous special nieces and nephews; and a longtime family friend, Aaron Weaver.
Mykee was known to everyone for her humble and cheerful demeanor. She was a devoted servant of God, a loving wife and mother, and a caring mother-in-law to Paul, whom she loved like a son. She was also a devoted caregiver for over 50 years to her daughter Linda, a role she embraced with unwavering love and strength.
She enjoyed listening to music from the Big Band era and anything by Elvis, often singing along to “Love Me Tender” whenever it played. She loved to crochet, especially baby blankets, always keeping a stockpile on hand to gift to family, friends, and even her favorite bank teller, Sheila, whenever a new life was expected. One of her cherished blankets won a second-place ribbon at the State Fair last year after her granddaughter Cindy secretly entered it.
Mykee was also a wonderful cook who loved feeding anyone who walked through her door. Her homemade chicken soup was always healing, and her famous potato salad was the highlight of every barbecue. Later in life, she discovered a love for Bingo, enjoying time spent with her daughter and grandchildren—especially when it supported her favorite local charity, Paws for Life Animal Shelter.
Anyone who knew Mykee would say the same thing: she was a truly sweet lady who showed genuine kindness, selflessness, strength, beautiful blue eyes, and an unwavering faith in Jesus.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sangre de Cristo Hospice and her favorite nurses, Shelby and Aude, for their compassionate care.
Per her wishes, there will be no service. Any donations made in her memory may be given to PAWs for Life.
