Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond “Mouse”; parents, Evelyn and Joseph Mohorcich; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Barbara Mohorcich; in-laws Anton and Jennie Vertovec; sisters-in-law, Helen (Ed) Sabo and Gladys (Robert) Tice; and brother-in-law, Gene Smelek.
Evelyn is survived by her children: Jean (David) Starcer, Raymond A. (Sherry) Vertovec, Thomas (Kathy) Vertovec, Susan (Greg) Miketa, Daniel (Hailey Csellar) Vertovec, and Matthew (Alissa) Vertovec. Grandchildren: David Starcer, Steven (Tori Cervi) Starcer, Janna (Zachary) Dionisio, Joshua (Kylee Provost) Miketa, Jessica (Mario) Rosado, Tyler (Dominic Montoya) Vertovec, Mikala Vertovec, Hunter and Cade Vertovec. Great grandchildren: Luca, Noah, and Brooke Rosado, Kohen and Paisley Dionisio, and Louis Cervi Starcer. She is also survived by her brother Jim Mohorcich, sister-in-law Betty Smelek, close friend, Evelyn Mae Matkins, and many cherished relatives and friends.
Evelyn was a graduate of Central’s class of ’53, a member of Immaculate Conception Lodge, a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary Help of Christians Church and member of their Altar and Rosary Society.
Maizie lived her life taking care of others, always putting their needs before her own and she did it with a joyful heart.
She will be remembered for her positive spirit, calming nature, and infectious smile, but most of all for continuing to live a life of faith even when her burdens became very heavy to bear. She is now at peace—God’s faithful servant.
Memorial mass, 10 am, with Rosary preceding at 9:30 am on Friday, August 28, 2026 at St. Mary’s Church. Internment will follow mass at Imperial Garden Cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care Maizie received from the staff at Life Care Center of Pueblo and Sangre de Cristo Community Care. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Help of Christians Church or Sangre de Cristo Community Care in her memory.
