Florence passed away at age 98 on Dec. 20, 2025 in Broomfield, CO. She was born on September 8, 1927 in Pueblo, CO. as the first of three children to Tom and Angelina DeVencenty. Florence graduated from Central High School in Pueblo as a proud Wildcat, class of 1945.
She spent a year in the Cadet Nurses Corp. program at St. Anthony's Hospital School of Nursing in Denver before marrying Joseph “Joe” DiLuzio who was returning from WWII. They were married for 64 years at the time of Joe's death in 2010.
Florence finished her nursing program at St. Mary's School of Practical Nursing in Pueblo after starting her family. She worked as a nurse for over 25 years in Pueblo at Parkview hospital and as an office nurse for general practice doctors in Pueblo and retiring as the staff nurse for Dr. Darryl Province. She absolutely loved being a nurse. She even continued to renew her state nursing license until she was over 85 years old and decided it was probably time to let the idea of returning to nursing go at that age, which she did so reluctantly.
During her nursing career she was actively involved in the local and state chapters of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). She served as president of the Pueblo chapter of the AAMA and was elected to represent Colorado as the state president to the national AAMA board. She also achieved the Woman of the Year Award from the Pueblo chapter of the American Business Women's Association. She was active in the Eagles Auxiliary and also volunteered with the Altar Society and at St. Mary Corwin hospital while in Pueblo. She raised three children along with managing her gardens of roses and vegetables, and caring for her mother and in -laws until their deaths. She enjoyed cooking and baking and her family really enjoyed it, too.
Florence moved to Westminster, CO in 2008 with her husband who was undergoing cancer treatments in Denver in order to be closer to his doctors and their daughter and son-in-law who lived there. While in Westminster she became actively involved in St Mark Catholic Church. She worked in the food bank and clothing bank; was a member of the Forever Young group at the church and served on the board as the entertainment director and unofficial marketing director working diligently (and successfully) with other members to get their membership to over 100. She also started the Aloneness Group at the church that is still in effect today believing that there were others in the parish who were grieving from loss and could benefit from companionship. She also helped to maintain the flowers and garden area around the grotto at the church and in her spare time she volunteered at St. Anthony North Hospital helping out in the radiology department. At all of 4'8” tall she was energy in motion and constantly on the go, which earned her the nickname in her family of the Energizer Bunny. Her accomplishments both professionally and voluntarily were the results of someone whose desire it was to help others. In light of what she achieved she really didn't like to be in the forefront, but she did like to stay active – her motto - “just keep moving.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. DiLuzio , her brother Sam DeVencenty and sister-in-law Antonia “Toni” Pappas (Buzos) DeVencenty, her sister Madaline (DeVencenty) Spaccamonti, and grandson Christoper Parr.
She is survived by her daughters Angela (Robert) Parr, Kathleen “Kathy Jo” (Paul) DiLuzio Anderson, and her son, Randy (Debra) DiLuzio, three grandchildren Carey(Greg) Moreschini, Chelse (Andrew) TenBraak, Kayla (Nathan) Naglich, eight great grandchildren and one most recent great great grandchild.
She is also survived by her brother-in-law Johnny Spaccamonti, niece Katrina (Robert) Dankert, nephews Tommy Spaccamonti, Mike (Lou) DiLuzio and Nick DiLuzio, with great niece and nephew Karli and John Dankert. She is lovingly remembered by her close friends and neighbors whom she greatly treasured for all the friendship, kindness and support they shared with her.
A viewing and rosary followed by a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church in Westminster, CO on January 8, with a Memorial service and Burial to follow at Imperial Memorial Gardens in Pueblo, CO on January 9, 2026.
