Frances “Poncha” Georgia Romero, 83, of Pueblo, Colorado, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026. She was born on June 24, 1943, to Felix and Helen Rodriguez. Frances grew up in Boone, Colorado, where she attended Bradford Elementary School and spent much of her younger years working in the fields.
Frances found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved working on puzzles and crossword puzzles, crocheting, watching her favorite soap operas, The Price Is Right, and Wheel of Fortune. She especially enjoyed listening to her Spanish music before going to bed. Above all, her greatest joy was her family.
Frances had a heart bigger than words could ever describe. She was the person everyone could turn to without fear of judgment, someone who made the world feel a little slower, warmer, and kinder. Her home was always a place of comfort, her hugs brought reassurance, and her laughter could brighten any room. She was always there with advice, a listening ear, or a shoulder to cry on.
She had her own special ways of showing love, whether it was quietly slipping you a twenty-dollar bill while whispering, “Don't tell your mom!” or sharing a good laugh when her husband would throw whatever was within reach. These little moments, her humor, and the countless ways she showed her love are memories her family will cherish forever.
Frances was the heart of her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and adoring great-grandmother. Her love was unconditional, her door was always open, and her family always knew they had a place to turn. The love she gave so freely will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
Frances was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank Romero; grandchildren, Randy Romero and Crystal Romero; parents, Felix and Helen Rodriguez; siblings, Teresa Greigo, Jonny Rodriguez, and Helen Martinez; and son-in-law, Ralph Saccomanno.
She leaves behind her loving family: Danny Romero, Frankie Romero, Nancy Saccomanno, Larry Romero, Judy Popish (Darol), Ronnie Romero (Patty), Sophie (Bobby) Valdez, Robert (Joanna) Rodriguez, Mary (Dave) Montez, Abel (JoAnn) Rodriguez, Virginia (Wally) Lopata, Rita (Dave) Berger, and Lucy (Joe) Cortez, along with eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort in knowing that the love she gave us will remain forever. We will miss her hugs, her laughter, her little surprises, and simply having her near. There will never be another Poncha, and our family will never be quite the same without her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and family will live on in all of us.
