Gabriel Phillip Maestas was born February 23, 1961 and left his earthly body March 10, 2026. Gabe was a warmhearted and kind soul — a gentle spirit to all who knew him, always with a kind word, embodying the qualities of his dear mother, Sarah. After graduating in 1979 from Pueblo South High School, Gabe moved up north and worked at the Coors Brewery for many years.
An avid sportsman at heart, he especially loved hiking and fishing the mountain lakes of Colorado amongst all the ‘woodland creatures.’ Gabe was a passionate fan of all the ‘home’ teams: the Avalanche, Buffs, Broncos, Nuggets, and Rockies. He loved music throughout his entire life, from classic rock to a fondness for old country songs. He recently shared ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’ with his sister, marveling at the beautiful lyrics. Gabe could often be found watching old ‘cowboy’ movies — including Gunsmoke reruns and all his favorite spaghetti westerns. Devoted to his faith and family, he stayed closely connected with his loved ones and especially cherished the ‘little ones’ as his nieces and nephews grew up. In his own quiet way, he served as the family communicator — keeping everyone informed of birthdays and staying in touch. He was fond of all family pets, and they were always drawn to him when he would visit.
He will be missed greatly as he was part of so many lives, and his memory will live forever in the hearts of all he touched. Fly free now, brother Gabe, and watch over us with mom and dad!
“Until we meet again.”
Gabe was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah, and father, Joe. He is survived by his siblings: Chuck Maestas, Theresa (Randy) Payton, Joe Maestas, Willie (Stephanie) Maestas, Veronica (Dave) Westfall, Monica (Hershel) Babbitt, Mike (Jill) Maestas, and Matt Maestas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
