The world lost one of its best with the passing of George E. Leuer, Sr. on Friday April 13, 2018. George went to his Heavenly reward following a decade long struggle with Alzheimer’s. He was 85. George was born on August 3, 1932, in Medina Township, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm. George attended Holy Name Catholic School and was a graduate of Deephaven High School, where he was voted Best Looking of the class of 1950. George served in the US Army in the early 1950s, and was stationed at Fort Carson. During his tour of duty, he met Virginia Wheat of Pueblo; and they married in 1955. Colorado would become his home for the rest of his life. Upon his discharge from the military, George was able to fulfill his childhood dream: to be a long haul truck driver. Whether it was as an owner/operator for firms such as Mayflower, Wright Motor Lines, and Swift or as co-owner of D & L Trucking, George was in his element. He loved driving, traveling the country and meeting new people. George was something of a human road map. Long before GPS, you could count on him for directions anywhere within the Continental United States. Like any native Minnesotan, George was an avid fisherman; and relished time out on a lake. He loved his family, his dogs, country music, and how he loved to sing. George was a happy, kind and gentle soul by nature. Blessed with movie star looks and the sweetest disposition, he was adored by all who knew him. George was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Fred & Clara Leuer; his wife of 62 years, Virginia; and by his brother, Paul. He is survived by his children, Frederick Leuer of Pueblo West, George E. Leuer, Jr. (Leann) of Tucson, AZ, Katherine Leuer-Hansen (Bernard) of San Diego, CA, and Kenneth Leuer (Cyndi) of Pueblo; his sisters, Marilyn Johnson of Ely, MN and Judith Ramthun (Kenneth) of Paynesville, MN; and sister-in-law, Jane Leuer of Princeton, MN; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and his large extended family, most of whom reside in Minnesota. The Leuer Family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Bruce McCandless Veterans Home for the loving care they gave George throughout his final years. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Bruce McCandless VA Nursing Home’s Four Seasons Trail Memory Care Unit.
