

George “Coy” Perez, 89, of Moreno Valley (Riverside County), CA, formerly of Pueblo, CO, passed away August 10, 2016. He attended Keating Elementary, Strack, Bessemer Middle School, and Central High School through the tenth grade. At age 16 he worked in the Pueblo Steel Mill. He served in the U.S. Army from June, 1945 – August, 1951. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, National Defense Service Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII, and the Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar. After the Army George worked at Allied Chemical as a forklift operator for 35 years, retiring in 1989. He worked with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in the Los Angeles Area, receiving the following awards: Frank Robb Award - 1971, Club Leader Trainer - 1976, and the Silver Beaver Award - 1977. George was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Quintana Perez, who he married in 1952; grandson, Gian Carlo Lobatto. He is survived by his siblings, Rose Romero, Josephine Leyva, Julia (Delfin) Martinez, and Mary Lou Perez; his children, Mary Ellen (Larry) Lobatto, Barbara Trujillo, Greg (Sonia) Perez, Teresa (Tony) Mercado and Art (Carmen) Perez; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Rosary will be 6 p.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2016; and Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m., Thursday, September 22, 2016, both to be held at Holy Family Parish in Pueblo.
