Gloria Dean was born in Pueblo, Colorado to Ted and Coreta Ard on January 12, 1935. She grew up in Lime, CO, a small steel mill community southeast of Pueblo. While working at the telephone company in Pueblo, Gloria met and later married Ed Englebrecht on July 31, 1954. They had celebrated 70 years together the summer before Ed's passing in 2025. Over the course of 30 years, Gloria and Ed loved and cared for more than 25 foster babies in their home. There wasn't a baby around that Gloria couldn't soothe in a rocking chair while humming "Jesus Loves Me".
Along with Ed, Gloria became a Christian in 1957. Over the years, she taught children in Sunday Bible classes, worked in the church nursery, led children's church, and worked in Vacation Bible School teaching young ones about God's love for them.
Gloria and Ed enjoyed spending time together while traveling around this beautiful country visiting National Parks, family and friends. Gloria sewed, crocheted, and did creweling embroidery; she was an excellent cook as well as a kind and generous hostess.
Gloria was wife to Charles "Ed" Englebrecht who preceded her in death. She was mom to Jack Englebrecht, Charles Englebrecht, Jr, and Kelly Fisher, and mother-in-law to Tom Fisher. She was Nana to Katie Englebrecht, Matthew Fisher, Timothy Fisher and his wife, Mary, and Zachary Fisher and his wife Elizabeth. She was Great Nana to Julien Englebrecht, Nora Fisher, Arthur Krause, Welkin Fisher, and William Fisher. Gloria was also "Nana" to all the neighborhood children no matter what neighborhood she was living in at the time. She is survived by her sister, Doris Kay Haines as well as many nieces and nephews.
Recently a hand written note was found in her Bible that said this, "It is not about coming to grips with who I am. It is about coming to grips with who God is, and about reading and studying His Word." Gloria lived a life worth living while at the same time setting an example for the rest of us to follow. She was loved well by many. We will miss her very much.
A Graveside Service will be held at Imperial Memorial Gardens Funeral, Cremation & Cemetery, 5450 CO-78, Pueblo, CO 81005, US, on May 21, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
