On June 12, 2023, Hannah Gibbs of Pueblo, Co. passed away at the age of 97 after a brief illness. She was an active, vibrant person with the love for life. She was a wonderful mother and friend to all. Hannahs life was so rich it deserves to be shared. Hannah was born in Augsburg, Germany on May 16, 1926. When the Nazis
came into power, being Jewish, she could not attend public school, so her parents (Eugene and Flora Untermayer) sent her to school in England at Stoutly Rough School in Haselmere, Surrey for 1 yr. At that time her parents felt their safety was in jeopardy. They contacted the school to send Hannah to Brussels, Belgium to meet her parents for their travels to NYC via the Holland American Ship Line at the age of 13. She arrived in NYC on January 30,1940. They were welcomed by her siblings Marianne and Richard who had arranged an apartment on Broadway. She attended George Washington High School graduating in January 1944. After graduation she attended a business college studying languages, mainly Spanish. Her first real job was at a business translating news, comics and other materials for South American countries. She moved on to an import/export company in downtown NYC, which later became the area of the New York Trade Center. In 1947 Hannah met her husband to be, Clifford A. Gibbs at the Hickory Ski Club. They were married on March 19, 1949. They were married for 65 years at the time of his passing. In 1950 they moved to Pueblo, Co. They lived near Mineral Place Park until the family expanded with their son, George, daughters Andy and Jeri and acquired a love for horses. In 1957 they moved West of City Park where they had their horses and multiple businesses and hobbies. A few of her hobbies were sewing, knitting, cooking, bridge, teaching skiing and all of the children's activities. She was PTA president of Goodnight elementary for many years. When the children went to school full- time, Hannah became the cafeteria manager at Hyde Park Elementary School for 14 years. She volunteered at the Pueblo Zoo gift shop for 25 years and loved every minute of it. Hannah and her late husband were honored into the Pueblo County 4-H Hall of Fame from 1963-1987 for all of their work with youth teaching horsemanship and skiing. She was also very active with the local YMCA.
