Born June 10, 1941, in Keokuk, IA to Eldred Wells and Roberta Wells (nee Foster), passed away December 8, 2021 in Pueblo, CO. Henry was one of five children. The eldest, Virgil (Artie) Wells predeceased him, twin sisters, Judy (Gene) Webb and Ruby (Lee) Lindblad, and the youngest, David (Char) Wells. As a child, Henry and his family moved to Canon City, CO, where he enjoyed riding his bike to deliver newspapers, showed Hampshire hogs, and graduated high school.
After graduation, Henry moved to Pueblo and began working at the State Hospital as a Psychiatric Tech. Here, he met his “state hospital sweetheart”. He asked her out on a date and the rest is history. As Henry would famously say, “Yes, we met at the state hospital, as employees, not patients!”
Henry married Euna Jean Wells (nee Bishop) “Jean” on June 15, 1962. Three days after they were married, devastation struck. Henry’s mother, Roberta, was injured and paralyzed due to a tornado. Henry and Jean took in Henry’s three younger siblings: Judy, Ruby, and David. Henry would often say “Jean and I were only married for three days, and we had three kids!”.
Henry and Jean welcomed their first child, Ruth, on September 19, 1963, followed by a son, Daniel, on April 17, 1965. They enjoyed watching their children learn, grow, and accept the Lord into their lives through church and baptism. Early on, Ruth and Daniel followed in Henry’s footsteps by having a paper route; except they had a Kawasaki motorcycle instead of a bicycle.
Henry and Jean spent a great deal of time working in real-estate, “fixer-uppers”, and rental houses. Henry flipped his last fixer upper when he was about 75 years old. Boy, was Jean mad when he bought that one!
Henry was also a retired Weld County Sheriffs Deputy. He spent over 10 years serving the Weld County community. He was proud to wear the uniform and be a POST Certified Colorado Peace Officer. Both of his children and grandson followed in Henry’s law-enforcement footsteps.
Henry was a Mason and Past Master of Pueblo Lodge 17. He was very involved and enjoyed helping others. Some of his volunteer work included helping children through the Shriners Hospital.
Henry is predeceased by his parents; Eldred and Roberta, wife; Euna Jean, and eldest brother; Virgil (Artie) Wells. He is survived by his two children; Ruth, and Daniel (Danielle), three grandchildren; Weston, Samantha (Tim), Tabitha, two great-grandchildren; Kaylynn and Felix, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Henry passed away 13 days prior to the 5th anniversary or Jean’s passing. 13 was Jean’s favorite number. Although Henry will be sorely missed, he is with “the meanest woman [I] was ever married to”.
Henry and Jean enjoyed helping others, especially animals. “All puppies know Popo”.
