He was born to John Herburger Sr. and Viola Martinez in La Junta, CO who precede him in death along with his daughter, Nicole Monique Herburger, his Grandmother, Lucia Herburger, and numerous other special relatives. John is survived by his wife, Marianne Herburger, daughters, Sara Herburger, Sheila Hull, Yvette Valdez(Pat), grandchildren, Ava Herburger, Jacob Hull, Isaiah Valdez(Jessica), Jordan Valdez; along with his many siblings, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
John graduated from East High School on June 19th, 1963 and with a great sense of duty to his country, he directly joined the United States Marine Corps. His tour of duty during Vietnam was served in Okinawa, Japan and from there his remaining time with the Marines was served back home in the states with his last location of Washington.
After relocating back to Pueblo, he met his wife Marianne and they were married on October 30th, 1971. John had a big heart as a father, immediately taking on the role for Marianne's daughter from a previous marriage Yvette and soon after added his children Nicole, Sara, and Sheila to a family he felt so much pride for. John also gave a father's love to Marianne's youngest sisters, Bobbie and Bonnie. His big heart paired with a passion to take care of his loved ones was so great that it was made to be an uncommon sight to see him working three jobs at a time to provide for his family. Nothing mattered more to him than that.
During the 80's and 90's he returned to the armed forces, this time serving in the United States Army and he was ranked as a Staff Sargent E6 upon his retirement. Besides a great love for family, John also felt passion for travelling and had many stories for his children of the places he had been from all over America, to Okinawa, to Panama. John always wanted to see the world.
As John grew older he reclaimed his role as a wonderful father, this time to his youngest grandchildren, Jacob and Ava. He poured his heart into giving them happy memories, taking them many places and making sure they knew they were loved.
Funeral services will be held for him on Thursday, November 12th, 2;00pm, at the Imperial Memorial Gardens Chapel. Family will be received at his sister Nena's house following the service.
John was a man who cared for all. May we always remember him.
