It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss that we announce the peaceful passing of
John Velasquez Jr. on November 23, 2023. Born on February 18, 1950, John was a pillar of
strength, love, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends.
John is preceded in death by his father, John (Chief) Velasquez, his in-laws, Nasario and
Ermalinda (Millie) Valdez and brother-in-law, Keith Valdez, but his legacy lives on through the
cherished memories and the impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him. He is
survived by his devoted wife and beloved partner of 53 years, Laura Velasquez, who stood by
his side through every joy and challenge.
John was a loving father to his daughter Shelley (Darrin) Cowger and son John (Tammy)
Velasquez III. His grandchildren, Chas Krummel, Caylee Krummel, John Velasquez IV, Trista
Velasquez, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins were all a source of immense pride and
happiness for him. He reveled in family gatherings and treasured moments spent together,
leaving behind a legacy of love and connection that will endure through the generations.
Born to Rose Velasquez, John shared a deep bond with his mother, who survives him, as well
as his brother Jim (Linda) Velasquez and sister Shirley (Moses) Salazar. The Velasquez family
was a source of strength, support, and laughter, creating a foundation of love that carried them
through both the highs and lows of life's endeavors.
John's passion for the outdoors was evident in his pursuits, whether he was hunting, competing
in Bass Tournaments, or simply enjoying nature's beauty at the cabin. His dedication to family
extended beyond bloodlines, as he embraced countless friends and additional family members
as his own.
A man of many talents, John developed a finely tuned skill for plumbing and was known for his
prowess on the bowling lanes. His zest for life and the ability to find joy in simple pleasures
endeared him to all who were fortunate enough to share in his company.
As we mourn the loss of John Velasquez Jr., let us also celebrate the rich tapestry of his life,
woven with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. May his spirit live on in the hearts of
