Josephine Perez Leyva passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 1, 2021. She was born on September 18 1921, to Angel and Vincenta Perez. She was preceded in death by her husband Steve C. Leyva, her parents and eight siblings. Josephine is survived by her daughters Susan (Darryl) and Milissa (Seann); grandchildren Jordan, Adrianna (Donnell), Jonah, Alexandria (Jon) and Hunter; Great- grandchildren Kingston and Scotland. Josephine was a member of Holy Family Parish, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
She was a member of the Ladies of Mary and the Pueblo Nocturnal Adoration Society. In addition, she belonged to many clubs: the Ideal Club, The Birthday Club, and the Bunco Club, to name a few. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary #145. She also was an election judge for over 20 years. Josephine was a loving and generous lady who was always giving her time and talents.
She loved to crochet, bowl, gamble, and spend time with her family and friends. She was a stern yet compassionate disciplinarian who always found the good in everyone. She ALWAYS had a smile on her face and was ready to socialize in an instant. Her friendly demeanor, positive attitude and love for children are what kept her going, so much that she started babysitting her nieces and nephews at the age of 8 and didn’t stop caring for children until she retired at 96 from King of Kings Lutheran Church. Josephine was loved by many and will missed by all. The family would like to thank Josephine’s God- daughter, Mary Ellen, for her help in caring for her Nina and RN Meg and CNA Melanie from Center Care Hospice for the dignified care they provided for her. Rosary will be Wednesday October 6th at TG McCarthy Funeral home at 6 o’clock. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 am Thursday October 7th at Holy Family Parish. Interment at Imperial Memorial Gardens. The family requests wearing of bright colors as they continue to celebrate Josephine’s fiesta.
